What Ontario tree species are on Canada's List of Species at Risk?
The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife In Canada (COSEWIC) has a complete list of endangered species in Canada as well as definitions of the risk categories.
Endangered
- Butternut (Juglans cinerea) Butternut, a relatively short-lived tree occurring in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick, was designated as Endangered in November 2003. Butternut produces edible nuts and is of special importance to many Aboriginal Peoples. The tree is widespread and infrequent but is widely impacted by an exotic disease (the Butternut Canker) that is spreading rapidly.
- Red Mulberry (Morus rubra) Designated Threatened in April 1987. Status re-examined and uplisted to Endangered in April 1999. Status re-examined and confirmed Endangered in May 2000. Last assessment based on an existing status report.
- Cucumber Tree (Magnolia acuminata) Designated Endangered in April 1984. Status re-examined and confirmed Endangered in April 1999 and in May 2000. Last assessment based on an existing status report.

- Common Hop Tree (Ptelea trifoliata) Designated Special Concern in April 1984. Status re-examined and uplisted to Threatened in November 2002. Last assessment based on an update status report.
- Kentucky Coffeetree (Gymnocladus dioica) Designated Threatened in April 1983. Status re-examined and confirmed in November 2000. Last assessment based on an update status report.
Species of Special Concern
- Blue Ash (Fraxinus quadrangulata) Designated Threatened in April 1983. Status re-examined and downlisted to Special Concern in November 2000. Last assessment based on an update status report.
- Shumard Oak (Quercus shumardii) Designated Special Concern in April 1984. Status re-examined and confirmed in April 1999
